Change the world

PasSPORT to Health

Helenvale Primary is situated in the Gelvandale area which has a high unemployment rate and many social problems. The school celebrated its 50th Birthday this year and it was a privilege for our group to contribute to this longstanding foundation.

The school has much room for development and our group tried to tackle the following areas:

-      Install an obstacle course on the vast open grass area

-      Install 5- a- side Soccer posts within the quads

-      Paint the dull quad areas with colourful games and wall targets

-      Refurbish a dormant store room and raise funds for new and fun sport equipment

During our numerous visits to the school we:

  •  Planted trees
  • Cleared and painted a storeroom
  • Stocked the storeroom with equipment
  • Painted educational games
  • Erected a an obstacle course that can be used for athletic training
  • Set up soccer posts

After obtaining sponsorship and gathering the necessary equipment, implementation took place. We had our handover on the 12th of November. Windsor had erected the structures for us. This was our last visit to the school.

Finally, we would like to thank our generous sponsors:

        Schaeffler SA

        International Police Association

        Whitfield bakery

And the many smaller sponsors!  Without you, none of this would have been possible. A quote that sums up how we feel is, “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” It is really easy to just say no when people approach you with funding proposals, but you went the extra mile and said yes. This made it possible for us to implement our intervention, and thus contributing to the growth and development of children from a disadvantaged community. We would like to extend our gratitude and thank you again on behalf of Helenvale School, our group and Dr Walter for your support in this healthy active school campaign.  Thank you!
